Mytheresa Inks Deal With DHL GoGreen Plus to Reduce CO2e Emissions

LONDON Mytheresa is looking to add a greener edge to its international deliveries through a new five-year partnership with DHL’s GoGreen Plus service, which was launched last year by DHL Express.

The service enables CO2e (carbon dioxide and equivalent greenhouse gas) emissions to be reduced through the use of sustainable aviation fuel instead of conventional jet fuel.

Mytheresa said it will plough “several million euros” into GoGreen Plus over the five years and expects the deal to reduce the CO2e emissions associated with its international shipments by more than 27,000 tons during the period.

“Based on this unique long-term agreement with DHL Express, we will be able to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions per order shipped,” said Sebastian Dietzmann, chief operating officer of Mytheresa.

John Pearson, chief executive officer of DHL Express, said Mytheresa is the first and largest e-commerce platform based in Germany to invest in sustainable aviation fuel.

Mustafa Tonguç, managing director of DHL Express Germany, added: “The partnership between Mytheresa and DHL Express in Germany has existed since 2006, and the five-year GoGreen Plus agreement we have now signed is another milestone on this partnership journey.”

Sustainable aviation fuel is produced from alternative raw materials with a sustainable energy profile, including used cooking oil, corn, waste and hydrogen. By contrast, conventional carbon-intensive aviation fuels or kerosene are derived from crude oil.

DHL Group said that GoGreen Plus is part of its goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The group said that with around 90 percent of its carbon footprint coming from its air network, “sustainable air transportation solutions are important for creating greener logistics operations.”

The deal also fortifies the existing relationship between Mytheresa and DHL.

As reported, the retailer has opened a new state-of-the-art distribution center at Halle/Leipzig Airport in Germany, which is located a mile from the DHL international air freight hub at the airport. It chose the location to enable speedier processing of incoming merchandise, and outgoing orders and returns.

The luxury website’s unique partnership with DHL has resulted in 20 percent of orders being shipped a day in advance and in returns being processed faster since they are delivered directly by DHL to Mytheresa’s distribution center, without intermediary processing at DHL’s warehouse.
