Must-See Michigan Spring Spots: Beauty at Dow Gardens

MIDLAND — For the majority of the year, visitors can embark on a stroll through a beautiful 110-acre botanical garden in Midland.

Dow Gardens is located at 1809 Eastman Ave. in Midland. It's described as “a dazzling 110-acre display of annuals and perennials punctuated by distinctive bridges, towering pines and delightful water features,” according to its website.

It was established in 1899 as a home for Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow. Today, the organization welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

Dow Gardens is currently open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays. Warm weather hours begin April 15 and run through Sept. 2. They are 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays.

Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for students ages 4-17, and $5 for adult students with valid ID. Children under 4 are admitted free. An annual pass is $30 per person. Electronic gift cards are available.

“As we embrace the vibrant spirit of spring, Dow Gardens blossoms with excitement," said Director of Programming and Guest Services Carolynn Paten. "Join us for a delightful array of events curated to celebrate the season’s beauty."

Butterflies in Bloom, an interactive exhibit, runs through April 14 and will see thousands of butterflies in the Dow Gardens Conservatory. Reservations are required.

Spring Stroll is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. May 3. There will be live music and more than 22,000 bulbs of vibrant color approaching full boom, according to the Dow Gardens website. Picnics are welcomed and encouraged, with specialty picnic bags available for pre-purchase for $15.

“Springtime at Dow Gardens is a symphony of colors, scents, and serenity," Paten said. "From enchanting garden walks to captivating workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy."
