At Monday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, the two wildest sights on the red carpet were the snakes that Tana Mongeau and H.E.R. wore wrapped around their shoulders, perhaps in reference to one very memorable Britney Spears performance back in 2002. Others played it a little safer when it came to animal-handling, if not when it came to showing skin, like Fifth Harmony alums and budding solo artists Camila Cabello in sheer white Balmain and Normani in sparkling Nicolas Jebran. Taylor Swift continued a recent run in Versace, and paired her 70s-era pattern with appropriate sky-high boots. The Jonas Brothers wore coordinating—but not matching—Fendi suits, while Bad Bunny and J Balvin were relatively subdued, in black and grey respectively, before their technicolor performance later in the night.
