Loro Piana wool tied to unpaid Indigenous farmers in Peru
Loro Piana sells a vicuña sweater for about $9,000, but the Indigenous community of Lucanas receives about $280 for an equivalent amount of fiber, meaning some farmers are unpaid for their labor. Vicuñas are camelids found in the southern Andes that produce the most expensive wool, and although Loro Piana has been the Lucanas' sole customer since 1994, the village of 2,700 people still largely experiences poverty. A 2018 study found that 80% of those living in the town said they hadn't benefited from the community's participation in the trade. {Bloomberg/paywalled}

Who is the TikTok Shop consumer?
After launching last year, TikTok Shop saw 5 million purchases during Black Friday and Cyber Monday and in February, it recorded the same number of active users as Shein. TikTok Shop has reached many consumers in a short amount of time, and despite Gen Z's strong presence on the app, millennial and Gen-X shoppers are growing the fastest on TikTok Shop. Earnest Analytics found that in February, people aged 25 to 34 and 45 to 54 accounted for 25% and 22% of sales, respectively, while 18 to 24 year-olds made up 7% of spending. {Business of Fashion/paywalled}
