Prada partners with Axiom Space to design NASA's spacesuits

Prada is partnering with commercial space company Axiom Space to design NASA's lunar spacesuits for the upcoming Artemis III mission in 2025. Prada's engineers and the Axiom Space systems team will work alongside each other to develop materials and design features that offer protection and increased flexibility for the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit. The Artemis III mission will also be the first to place a woman on the Moon. "Prada's technical expertise with raw materials, manufacturing techniques and innovative design concepts will bring advanced technologies instrumental in ensuring not only the comfort of astronauts on the lunar surface, but also the much-needed human factors considerations absent from legacy spacesuits," Michael Suffredini, CEO of Axiom Space, said in a statement. {Fashionista inbox}

Footwear brands earning more wholesale revenue with fewer partners

For footwear brands, wholesale revenue is increasing despite being available in fewer stores. Nike scaled back its wholesale partnerships within the past few years to focus on DTC sales, and the brand is now reporting that its most recent quarter saw double-digit sales growth across its biggest wholesale partners. "We've really sharpened our wholesale focus over the last few years to focus on fewer multi-brand partners where we're investing in elevated retail experiences and connected digital membership at scale," Nike CEO John Donahoe said. {Glossy/paywalled}

Why Shen Beauty shut down

Shen Beauty, a popular Brooklyn boutique offering beauty products and services, abruptly closed its doors in August, with Founder Jessica Richards citing "ongoing economic issues" in an email to Shen Beauty's staff as the reason for the store's shutdown. In interviews with The New York Times, many former employees detailed a casual work environment, but others described a more hostile one, alleging that Richards yelled at staff members, made offensive comments and had been "fully or partly naked in workplace settings." {The New York Times/paywalled}
