This New Music Video Is a Celebration of Black Women and Natural Hair

Rapper SHAVONE releases the music video for her song “4C.”

Not even five seconds into SHAVONE'S new video for her song “4C” (a reference to a texture type of natural hair) and you are met with a variety of blooming Afros, braids, twists, and other natural hairstyles. The video features a group of carefree black women bopping to the rhythm of the infectious beat in and outside of a popular Brooklyn hair salon "Hair By Susy." Many of the video’s visuals are representative of the black hair experience, something that isn’t celebrated enough in popular culture.

SHAVONE told Billboard, “As a creative and unapologetic woman of color, ‘4C’ is so dear to me because the art represents so much of my life and the women who continue to keep me and the rest of the world inspired.” The dynamic styling of the video includes striking pops of color, fierce prints, and powerful shapes. It’s the perfect song and visual to prepare us for what soon-to-be warmer weather has to offer. This is the type of representation we can get behind!
