Museums Nationwide Will Offer Free Admission One Day This Month

In honor of Museum Day, visitors can gain free entry to over 500 museums across the country.

Museums across the United States will offer free admission to visitors on one Saturday this month.

In Honor of Museum Day on Sept. 17, hundreds of participating cultural institutions, art centers, and historical landmarks will waive admission for guests who present their free Museum Day ticket upon arrival.

The event is hosted by Smithsonian Magazine, which organizes the event annually. This year, just shy of 600 attractions will be available for the public to enjoy at no cost.

Here's how it works: those looking to partake in the free Museum Day experience should head to the Smithsonian Magazine website. There, parties can search for nearby museums or learning centers participating in the promotion and make a reservation for their free trip.

Tickets will be made available via email on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Since the free passes reserved for Museum Day are only valid on Sept. 17, space is limited, so participants can only download one ticket per email address. That said, each ticket does grant free general admission access for two people, so at least you can bring a friend!

Some of the most popular museums confirmed to be offering free admission include the Hawaii State Art Museum, The Jewish Museum and Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum in NYC, San Francisco's Museum of Craft and Design, The Museum of Flight in Seattle, and The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site & Interpretive Center, among many others.
