There's a Murder, She Wrote movie happening!

A film inspired by the classic TV series Murder, She Wrote is in the works at Universal, from writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Per Variety, "Blum and Angelo joined the project prior to the writers strike, and will not resume their work on the screenplay until the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have reached a deal."

The original Murder, She Wrote starred Angela Lansbury, who passed away last year at age 96, as Jessica Fletcher, a mystery novelist and amateur detective who solved murders, and ran for 12 seasons. It's currently streaming on Peacock, and remains a favorite among cozy mystery fans.

There are no details yet as to how the movie will fit into the original series, or if it will be a full reboot featuring a new Jessica Fletcher. It's also as yet unclear if the story will take place in the fictional Cabot Cove, Maine, where Fletcher resided and solved many of the crimes in the TV show.

The news first broke while Schuker Blum and Angelo were discussing their newest film, Dumb Money, at TIFF. "We'll tell you one thing that hasn't been reported yet, which is we have written a theatrical feature film version of Murder, She Wrote for Universal, and we're really excited," Schuker Blum told Collider. Angelo added it was "Jessica Fletcher's time to return."

We'll update this as soon as we learn more about the Murder, She Wrote film.
