In our opinion, the best winter fashion trends are ones that are as practical as they are cute. It's the reason we've already hopped on board with jellyfishing (aka pairing a bulky coat with slim-fitting bottoms) and continue to complete our looks with a neutral pair of Uggs. It's also why we're currently contemplating investing in a muppet hat, an elaborate, whimsical design that reminds us of those fuzzy puppets we loved as children. Aside from counting celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Rihanna as fans, this borderline-outrageous accessory acts a quick statement piece and will no doubt work to keep us warm through the rest of the season.
Of course, the faux-fur bucket hat isn't really a new discovery. The trend tends to pop up every few decades and even had a moment during the 1990s. Pamela Anderson, for instance, wore a large pink version to the '99 MTV Video Music Awards, while Jay Kay from Jamiroquai rocked one in the music video for 1996's "Virtual Insanity."
Also, in a case of perfect timing, Lady Gaga wore multiple fuzzy hats as Patrizia Reggiani in the movie House of Gucci. Her '80s ski-glam outfits left us feeling inspired, tempting us to add similar headgear to our own collection.

Although these muppet hats may seem a little over-the-top, models, actresses, and influencers are proving they can be quite versatile, dressing them up and down. Ahead, check out a few ideas for how to wear this bold little extra, then scoop up one for yourself.

Emily Ratajkowski stepped out wearing all black (save for that sneaky pop of blue), but her animal-print muppet hat helped to make her outfit feel special.

Leave it to Rihanna to find the perfect — and low-effort! — way to spice up a simple ensemble. A fuzzy hat will never fail to add an element of fun.

Imaan Hammam's leather dress and knee-high boots were elevated and fancy on their own, but her wine-colored fuzzy hat gave her outfit a casual spin — and added a welcome pop.

A printed muppet hat will instantly add flair to the pieces that are already in your wardrobe, and will no doubt take even the most "meh" items up a notch.

Of course, there's no shame in going all-out, either. Commit to the over-the-top nature of this accessory and pair it with other elaborate pieces, such as beaded necklaces and leopard tops.

If you're unsure how to style a bright muppet hat, stick to a theme and pair it with items from the same color family, then add a contrasting piece or two to liven up the look.
