Multiple Colorado Ski Areas Closes As Blizzard Settles In

The long-discussed Colorado blizzard has finally blown into the Centennial State, leading to multiple ski resort closures.

This morning, Loveland Ski Area, Colorado, shared that it wouldn't open today, citing the closure of I-70, which provides access to the Front Range from Denver, Colorado.

According to COtrip, a web application managed in part by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), I-70 remains closed due to safety concerns.

One traveler 9News spoke with left Vail via bus yesterday afternoon and is still stuck on I-70 as of this morning. The highway closed Wednesday night between Golden and Silverthorne.

CDOT shared on X earlier this morning that portions of several other roads, including US 6, US 40, and US 285, are closed.

"Treacherous driving conditions have led to multiple closures with more to come Thursday," CDOT wrote. "Motorists urged to avoid travel if possible."

Due to these road closures, Arapahoe Basin, Colorado, has been rendered inaccessible, leading the resort to suspend operations alongside Loveland today. Eldora Mountain Resort, Colorado, too, is closed after receiving 33 inches of snow overnight, with more on the way.

"We have experienced multiple snow slides on Shelf Road (our access road) since about 3:00 AM and remain concerned about further slide danger on the road today." Eldora wrote in an operations update. "We hope to resume normal operations tomorrow."

The storm could still produce even more snow. In his morning mountain weather update, Meteorologist Chris Tomer stated that another one to two feet of snow is possible across the front range over the next 24 to 36 hours.
