Need mulch or compost? Parks & Rec holding free giveaway at county parks

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — If you are in need of mulch or compost for your garden this spring, you are in luck.

San Diego County is holding a compost and mulch giveaway this week during International Compost Awareness Week 2024 which runs May 5-11. The event is free to the public.

San Diego teachers can get free admission to USS Midway Museum in May

The County of San Diego Departments of Public Works and Parks and Recreation is holding the giveaways at several county parks:

  • Dianne Jacob Lakeside Equestrian Park

    • Noon to 4:30 p.m. (mulch only)

  • El Capitan County Preserve

    • 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (compost only)

  • Louis A. Stelzer County Park

    • 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. (compost only)

  • Santa Ysabel Nature Center

    • 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (compost and mulch)

  • Spring Valley County Park

    • 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (compost and mulch)

  • Wilderness Gardens County Preserve

    • 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (mulch only)

Visible from I-5, this trail takes you through a canyon with breathtaking views

Containers will not be provided, so event organizers recommend to bring your own bucket or vehicle to pick up the material.
