According to Deadline, when it comes to the money the movie has garnered worldwide, the Marvel film is about to make over $900 million. Specifically, Black Panther has brought in $897.7 million, globally. As for the money the film has made in North America, it comes out to $501.1 million, with $396.6 million internationally.
After much anticipation, Black Panther officially opened nationwide on Friday, and it’s already breaking box-office records. But exactly how much has Black Panther made so far? We’re glad you asked.
On Friday alone, Black Panther made more than $76 million. That includes the $25 million or so it brought in during Thursday night previews. As of now, it’s anticipated the film will have the biggest February opening of all time, a distinction that currently belongs to Deadpool, which made $152 million in its opening weekend in February 2016.
Black Panther is also poised to have the sixth-best opening of all time, regardless of month, with an estimated $186 million box-office haul over three days, according to Deadline. The movie is expected to bring in more than $213 million by the end of Presidents’ Day on Monday.
The Marvel Studios movie follows King T’Challa, aka Black Panther, as he returns home to the fictional African nation of Wakanda. When enemies threaten his sovereignty, T’Challa must protect his home from potential war.
Of course, none of these box-office predictions are a total surprise. We’ve been hyped about the movie since the trailer first dropped in June, and the buzz has only continued to grow since then.
Not to mention Black Panther‘s Rotten Tomatoes score was at 100% for weeks leading up to its release, and has since only dropped to 97%.
In addition to being part of the Marvel movie series, the film is being celebrated for its majority-black cast. The cast is seriously stacked, with Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, and Angela Bassett, just to name a few.
Black Panther may even end up having the highest-selling weekend of any superhero movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Also impressive? The fans who have been dressing up in amazing costumes for the premiere. Tickets may be hard to score, but you can still celebrate the people of Wakanda in style.
