An MUA Shares A 'Game-Changing' Concealer Trick Women Over 40 Can Try To Hide Under Eye Wrinkles—'Bright & Flawless'

YouTube tutorials offer a wealth of makeup tips and tricks, and for mature beauties over 40 seeking advice on concealer, one standout creator and makeup artist, Brianna Stanko, has created an informative and captivating video.

In her recent upload, Stanko demonstrated how to apply concealer flawlessly, leaving the under-eye area looking “bright and smooth” without emphasizing fine lines or wrinkles, or creating a “crepey” appearance that can be common among those new to concealer.

“We all want flawless, bright-looking under-eyes, but if you’re following the 20-somethings or younger on Instagram or YouTube, a lot of those techniques that they use with their concealer for brightening the under-eyes just does not work for us over 40,” she explained. Stanko added: “It’s not going to do the same thing. We have lines, wrinkles and texture as we get older, so you can’t do the same techniques.”

Pro Tip #1. Use A Concealer That Matches Your Skin Tone For The Under-Eyes

She then grabbed her liquid Oxygenetics concealer and began applying it to her under-eye area with her finger. "One of the tricks to concealing as you get older is you don't want to go too light. That is a big mistake I see a lot of people making. They think to brighten the under-eyes and get that youthful brightness that you have to go lighter." Stanko continued: "You really don't want to do that because that's actually going to accentuate little lines and under-eye darkness more."

Stanko then noted that "you want to take a concealer that is pretty much your skin tone if not even slightly darker." She continued to apply the product beneath her eyes. "That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm taking this concealer that matches my skin tone. All I have on is my SPF and blush. I'm just taking a concealer that matches my skin, and I am not going any lighter."

#2. Essential Hack: Add A Brightening Product In Your 'Triangle Cheek Area'

After applying and dabbing the concealer with her fingers, Stanko then began blending it all out with a foundation brush. "Okay so we have our concealer on, but we want to add that pop-up youthful brightness now," Stanko addressed. "Here is my tip that makes all the difference if you are 40 and up." Stanko held up her Fenty Beauty Bright Fix Eye Brightener and MAC Prep and Prime Highlighter in a Radiant Rose. She used one beneath one eye and the other product beneath her other eye.

"What you do is you take a brightening product like this, get a dab of that, and instead of applying it directly under your eyes, you actually apply it in the area between the side of your nose and the top of your cheeks." She said that if product is added to this "triangle area" that it won't "accentuate any of the lines, wrinkles and texture" in your under-eye area. "You're not actually brightening those things, which will happen if you use too light of a concealer up under your eyes."

"I just pat the brightening product right on top, right in that triangle area and it lifts the face," Stanko went on. "At the same time, this makes that area look a little bit more full because that area you actually lose fat in very early on. It's one of the very first fat pad separation areas that we get as we age, so this really helps to add highlight and plumpness back to that area."

Stanko showed her viewers the "difference" that her brightness hack made when paired with her previous concealed under-eye look and how it "lifted" her skin. She concluded that she found this trick to be a "game-changer" for makeup over 40. (We're def trying it in our own routines!)
