The MTV Movie Awards Are Still a Thing?

According to various news outlets, the MTV Movie Awards happened last night, which seems strange because, gun to my head, I'd have bet they stopped doing these things like seven years ago. Here's what went down at the awards ceremony that, if Variety is to be believed, "happened."

It was, unsurprisingly, Marvel Studios' Black Panther that took home the bulk of the golden popcorn statues. Michael B. Jordan won "Best Villain" before delivering a fun little jab at Roseanne Barr, saying he expected her to win, echoing an earlier joke from Olivia Munn, who, while presenting "Best Hero," endorsed "that guy who fired Roseanne.” Olivia Munn, welcome to the resistance.

Jordan's Black Panther counterpart, Chadwick Boseman, won that "Best Hero" award before inviting James Shaw Jr., the man who stopped the Waffle House shooting, up on stage and handing him the trophy. “This is gonna live at your house," he said, which is either a beautiful gesture of respect and solidarity in these trying times or a tremendous prank.

Elsewhere, Stranger Things and IT won big, proving there's nothing people like watching more than a terrified Finn Wolfhard. Tiffany Haddish also had a big night, hosting the show and winning Best Comedic Performance for Girls Trip. The MTV Movie Awards may be completely irrelevant and probably shouldn't exist anymore, but at least they're not giving Gary Oldman an award for doing a bad impression of Winston Churchill.
