MSPCA Seeking Special Adopters for 33 Surrendered Sugar Gliders

They're such exotic and unique animals.

If you live in Western Massachusetts The MSPCA-Angell is looking for some adoptive parents for some adorable sugar gliders. The shelter took in 33 of these little marsupials along with two hedgehogs after their owner surrendered them.

Watch the following video to see these precious little guys searching for a new forever home.

Sugar gliders are nocturnal animals and they require a specialized diet and environment to thrive in captivity, including a diet that is high in protein and low in fat including insects, fruit and nectar.

WWLP reports that the owner was dealing with some medical issues that led to the surrender of these animals.

“We don’t often have sugar gliders in our care,” O’Leary expounded. “It’s also rare that we get so many into the shelter at once, so we need adopters to step up and take these guys home,’ said O’Leary.

Sugar gliders live around 10-12 years in captivity, so those looking to add one to their home should be prepared for a long commitment. Sugar Gliders also live in colonies in the wild, so it's best to adopt two or more so they don't become lonely. You should also have a veterinarian who is experienced in caring for exotic animals.

Anyone interested in adopting should apply at mspca.org/nevinsadopt.
