MSCHF has found its next big shoe release. After a string of viral releases, the art and marketing company has enlisted Spike Lee to model its new 2×4 boot. Lee appears, shot in a series of images by his daughter Satchel Lee. The images were taken in New York City.

The 2×4 is a brown, platform boot that borrows from the classic Timberland. MSCHF’s version features a black padded leather ankle collar as well as black and brown laces. Images have been circulating online of the boots and NBA player Jordan Clarkson wore them in the tunnel for a game on March 6.

The most distinctive part of the design is its usage of the rubber lug sole. The platform of the boot appears as if two soles were stuck together, with the underside of an additional sole, used to create the upper and tongue of the style. In effect, the entire boot is the gum sole. The eyelets, and some designs on the top of the boot, resemble the Louis Vuitton Blossom motif. Vuitton recently collaborated with Timberland under the direction of Pharrell.

The MSCHF 2×4 will go on sale March 19 at 2 p.m. ET. The boot will retail for $400 and be available at mschf.com and the MSCHF Sneakers App.

The company’s most well-known success is likely its Big Red Boot which subsequently was available in black and yellow. The red version went massively viral in 2023. But in addition to virality, the company has courted controversy. In December, the Brooklyn-based company was blocked by courts from producing its “Wavy Baby” shoes. Vans, who brought the inciting suit, alleged copyright infringement.

MSCHF was launched in 2016 in Brooklyn by one-time Buzzfeed employee Gabriel Whaley. In addition to footwear, the brand has released browser plugins, handbags and a cologne that smells like WD-40.
