The MSCHF Big Yellow Boots collab with Crocs just dropped, and people are divided

A few months ago, the internet exploded with opinions after seeing the Big Red Boots from the art collective MSCHF, based in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The boots, which quickly sold out, despite their $350 price point, were a polarizing piece of fashion. Some people liked their oversized and cartoonish design, while others hated just how impractical they were, calling the footwear a “social experiment.

Despite early naysayers, the boots made the rounds through plenty of people’s closets and TikTok fashion videos. The #bigredboots hashtag currently has over 257 million views on TikTok.

In the months just after their release, they were easy to spot, worn by notable NBA players and musicians.

After the success of the first boot, MSCHF decided to try it again. The collective made some major changes and added a collaborator. At designer Rick Owens’s show at Paris Fashion Week, an Estonian rapper, TOMM¥ €A$H (seen as the mime below), debuted the new version of the shoe: the Big Yellow Boots.

This boots are a collaboration with Crocs and feature the brand’s signature holes. The overall structure and functionality of the boots are the same, but they also happen to double as Croc’s classic clog.

It took time for people to warm up to the Big Red Boots, and the internet hasn’t fully made up its mind about these yet.

“They kind of look like cheese to me,” said @soleloco.

“These go stupid hard,” replied @slatx3.

Even with many sneakerheads intrigued or up in arms about this collab, the Big Yellow Boots haven’t had the massive initial impact of their predecessor. That’s for a reason, though. MSCHF hasn’t announced if this is an actual product or a one-off collaboration made specifically for Paris Fashion Week.

If these are set to hit the shelves at the same price point as the originals, it might be best for people to wait to buy them. On StockX, the Big Red Boots are currently reselling for $243, significantly less than the original retail price. There was a time shortly after the release when the boots were valued much higher, but their availability increased after the hype died down.

If fashionistas like the Big Yellow Boots just as much as their predecessor and don’t want to pay the anticipated retail price, waiting until the streetwear community decides how it feels about the product before buying might be the best course of action.
