Colombian cyclist Ivan Ramiro Sosa (Movistar) was on a training ride when he ended up in an altercation with a truck driver that resulted in the driver firing shots in the air and hitting Sosa with his revolver. Thankfully, other than a cut on his forehead, the 25-year-old racer is alright—but according to some police reports, he may be charged with property damage to the truck.
According to El Tiempo, Sosa was out on a normal training ride yesterday—Thursday, January 5—when he encountered the angry truck driver. While details around the incident are scarce, the report states that Sosa was riding on Chinauta road in the Cundinamarca district in Colombia, when a truck driver made a tight pass, then stopped and engaged in a fight with him, eventually pulling out a revolver and firing in the air before hitting Sosa with the gun.
Mundo Ciclistico, a Colombian cycling media feed, shared a photo of the cut on Sosa’s chin sustained from the driver hitting him:

There are also some early reports from Road.cc that the police stopped the driver, and the driver claimed Sosa had broken his windshield with a rock and had squirted a water bottle in his face. After that, the driver reportedly stopped and pulled out his (legally owned) gun.
According to El Espectador, the police report states that the firearm was seized, and police ascertained the driver had a valid permit to carry it. The driver has been since charged with crime of personal injury and the cyclist for the crime of damage to the property of others.
Sosa was taken to a nearby medical center to treat the cuts and a police report was filed. On his Instagram Stories, he thanked his fans for their concern and added that he was scared but OK.
Since the incident, the Movistar team tweeted, “We confirm that Iván Sosa was treated for chin injuries at a medical center in Fusagasugá (Colombia), his place of origin, after the incident suffered this Thursday. The Movistar Team cyclist has remained conscious at all times. Good luck, friend!” [translated from Spanish]
