Moving Acadiana Forward: Jim Deggy’s Brick Oven Pizza and Brewery

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– A new tenant has taken over the old Dat Dog location in Downtown Lafayette.

The latest pizza spot and brewery offers a grunge-themed setting with a rich family narrative at its core. After sitting for almost three years, a new business finally occupies the old Dat Dog location in Downtown Lafayette.

“We are continuing to be a growing destination for people who are looking for a good time and something nice to eat and a good place to hang out,” Kevin Blanchard said.

Jim Deggy’s Brick Oven Pizza and Brewery offers a unique touch to the new venue, going beyond tasty pizza, wings and salads. Customers love the family-friendly environment it provides.

“Very family oriented, after the games on Saturdays you are going to see kids with jerseys on,” Blanchard said.

The owner Paul Everett said every detail of the restaurant is infused with family history and cherished memories.

“When I met my wife we shared a love for good quality pizza,” Averett said.

The name was inspired after his grandfather.

“They always called him Jim,” Averett said. “There were so many Digregorios in the neighborhood they called them the Deggy’s.”

Everett reflects on losing valuable time with his children while serving in the military.

“You see them growing up over the phone and on facetime and pictures,” Blanchard said.

He and his son constructed or designed every aspect of the restaurant.

“We designed it ourselves, cut it ourselves, built it ourselves,” Averett said.

His daughters pitch in during the summer months, allowing him to make up for lost time with his family.

“They love it so this gives them a good employment opportunity,” Averett said.

“We’ve enjoyed this,” he added. “This has brought my family back together with my kids.”

Jim Deggy’s is now open. They have a select menu during Festival International.
