Louisiana lawmakers advanced a bill Monday that would eliminate the state's annual vehicle inspection sticker requirement. Shreveport-area Republican Rep. Larry Bagley's House Bill 344 was reported favorably from the House Transportation Committee on a 6-5 vote.

The bill will next be heard by the House Appropriations Committee because the elimination of the stickers would create a combined $14 million in lost revenue to the Louisiana State Police and Office of Motor Vehicles.

Decades ago, if people wanted to hear Cajun or Zydeco music, they had to go to a dancehall or a bar, or they heard it at home.

It was not until Festivals Acadiens et Créoles, the original and largest Cajun and Zydeco music festival, that families could fall in love with the unique mixture of rhythm and blues, soul, Cajun and Creole music through a live concert. This year, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles celebrates its 50th anniversary. It's important to remember this three-day celebration began as a humble one-day concert.
