This Mountain Coaster in Switzerland Has the Best Views of the Alps

The Swiss Alps are best experienced while moving.

Whether hiking or skiing, it’s incredible to discover just how expansive the Alps really are.

In Kandersteg, Switzerland, there is a resort that gives guests a whole new way to experience the mountains: An almost 2,500-foot metal slide takes visitors down the sides of a green mountain, through fields of wildflowers and forests of vibrant green trees.

Hotel Oeschinensee’s mountain coaster is a summer toboggan slide that gives riders sweeping panoramic views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site as they slide their way down. Riders mount their single-person toboggan which starts like a roller coaster and then turns into an epic slide with moving views of the Alps.

Cars are banned on the mountain so to get to the top, visitors must take a cable car or hike their way up. The hike generally takes about 1.5 hours to complete.

The ride is open from May through October then closed for winter. One ride on the mountain coaster will cost adults about $5 while a bundle of 10 trips will cost about $35.

Visitors to the hotel can also take a rowboat across the hotel’s Oeschinensee Lake, take an Electromobile through the mountains or order a picnic (complete with wine!) to enjoy on the mountainside.
