Mother of Dragons! 'Game of Thrones' Just Released the Season 8 Script, and Fans Are Furious About This 1 Line

HBO just revealed one of the final season scripts for Game of Thrones, and everyone's upset (yes, even more so than when they watched the show).
Since the show is up for 32 Emmys, including SELF-NOMINATED stars Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre), the network had to submit the script for the finale episode of season eight to the awards. Warning: You may go full Mad Queen when you read it...especially the one detail we still can't wrap our minds around.
See, fans thought that during the last episode, after Jon Snow murders Daenerys in what's left of the throne room, he was spared his life for an important reason. Remember when Drogon realizes his queen, Daenerys, is dead? Instead of turning his fire and fury on Jon, Drogon starts to burn down the Iron Throne instead. Fans interpreted this moment as Drogon knowing thatDaenerys was really driven to madness by her desire for power—she was SO laser-focused on the Iron Throne and becoming Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, rightful heir, yadda yadda yadda, that she ended up doing the one thing she swore she'd never do: hurt innocent people (yeah, that kinda went out the window when she blitzed the entire city of King's Landing).
But, the scripts reveal Drogon's real dragon-thoughts, and it's very disappointing.
The excerpt in question, via CNET, reads:
The dragon rises up on his hind legs, towering over Jon. In a beautiful, terrifying tableaux, he roars to the sky, the embodiment of rage. He looks down at Jon. We see the fire build up in his throat. Jon sees it as well. He prepares to die. But the blast is not for him. Drogon wants to burn the world but he will not kill Jon. He breathes fire on the back wall, blasting down what remains of the great red blocks of stone. We look over Jon's shoulder as the fire sweeps toward the throne—not the target of Drogon's wrath, just a dumb bystander caught up in the conflagration. We look through the blades of the throne as the flames engulf it, and blast the wall behind it. We see the throne in the flames, turning red, then white, then beginning to lose its form.
A dumb bystander? So, what this script says, is that Drogon didn't put two-and-two together? He didn't even realize that burning the Iron Throne was the most poetic justice the entire season gave us? Instead, it was just a meaningless obstacle, a "dumb bystander," to Drogon's fiery wrath.
Of course, the script could be interpreted with Jon as the "dumb bystander" (although it would be grammatically incorrect to assume this). But, still, it already points out that Jon wasn't the target of Drogon's fury, and it never mentions that the throne that metaphorically killed Drogon's mother, Dany, was the object of his anger either.
BRB, we need to make like Jon Snow and spend some time alone in a dark, empty cell while we process all of this. (We guess there's always the GoT prequel to look forward to???)
