SARAH AHN: I just really want people to be able to connect with us as a family, as a friend, as a mom, as a sister, and to really just love the food that we put out there.

Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm the creator of Ahnest Kitchen, and this is my mom.

SARAH AHN: And we're super excited to be here. Growing up Korean America, my core memories of growing up was when I was in elementary and middle school. And at that time, Korean and Asian culture was not popular. So when I brought lunches to school that wasn't typical, of course, people were going to make remarks about it.

As I matured and realized the beauty of our culture, it's something that I'm very, very proud to be.

My mom always told me that growing up she had her mom's food, and that it was absolutely amazing. And she wished that she collected more of her recipes and was able to pass it down onto me. And I just figured the best way to share it was to use a website. Because it's just so easy to collect it there than writing it down in a notebook.

And then I just decided to share it with everyone to see. Because her recipes are amazing. She's a former restaurant owner, former cook. And so these aren't just home recipes that are good. These are restaurant-quality recipes that could sell. So I just thought like instead of gatekeeping this, why not share it with everyone so they can enjoy it at home too and share the wonders of Korean food?

SARAH AHN: I just really want people to be able to connect with us as a family, as a friend, as a mom, as a sister and to really just love the food that we put out there. And so to have the opportunity to share that, I just feel really very grateful that I can do that.

SARAH AHN: It means a lot to me when people say that she's our mom or that our videos bring them to tears because what I put out on social media, on TikTok, and Instagram, is completely unfiltered. We don't live an extravagant lifestyle. In fact, my dad paints for a living. And we just try our best to make sure the bills are paid every month.

And so for us to be able to show that side where we're authentically ourselves, and we don't live this extravagant lifestyle, and for people to relate to that for the successes we've have, for the struggles that we go through, that brings them to tears, it means a lot. Because it's just nice and refreshing to see this normal family and to have people relate to us.
