For Mother's Day, Make Your Mom a Drink

She's earned it.

Perhaps you have a mom in your life. Maybe she’s your mom, maybe she’s the mom of your kid, maybe she’s a pal who is also a mom. And maybe—just maybe—that mom would like a cocktail this Mothers’ Day. First things first: pour her whatever she wants. As Chris Resnick of Minnow Bar in Miami puts it, “She gave birth to you. You buy her whatever the hell she wants!”

But, just in case you need some inspiration, we’ve asked bartenders to make some Mothers’ Day cocktail suggestions. Be sure to pair yours with a hand-written note.

Bubbles
Time to pop some bottles and celebrate moms. (Listen, it's better than "dads and grads", okay?) According to Jeff Hammett of Guild in Austin, “Mother’s Day screams bubbles.” He likes to muddled some fresh strawberries with a bit of gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup, and then top it off with prosecco for a riff on the classic French 75.

Gin
It is the official spirit of spring, after all. Andrew Woodley of The Street Food Hall in Waikiki likes it for Mothers’ Day in particular because, he says, “My mother’s favorite spirit is gin, so I treat her with an over-the-top Spanish style gin and tonic.” Make sure to pick up some high quality tonic water, like Fever-Tree.

Jonathan Egged of Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, California is also a gin fan for Mothers’ Day. He makes a riff on a traditional Tom Collins, adding in raspberry and orange bitters, for “a beautiful pink hue combined with a delightful berry flavor.” Doesn’t your mom deserve a delightful berry flavor?

Vodka
After all, “nothing is as elegant as vodka,” says Yamilet Covarubbias of the Costabaja Resort in La Paz, Mexico. Gabriele Guidoni of Bond 45 in New York is on board: he likes a Watermelon Cooler for Mother’s Day, combining vodka, fresh watermelon, lime, and ginger beer. Over chipped ice—has to be chipped ice. “It’s exactly what every mother deserves!”
