An Exclusive BTS Look at 'A Most Violent Year'

For some, New Year’s Eve is all about parties and champagne. For those who don’t want to indulge or consider NYE to be amateur hour, there is always a cinematic escape. What to watch? Out on December 31 is a film that is high on our must-see list—the mobster drama A Most Violent Year starring Jessica Chastain, Oscar Isaac, and David Oyelowo. Directed by J.C. Chandor, it tells the story of an immigrant (Isaac) whose seemingly nefarious business dealings catch the eye of the FEDS at the height of New York City’s early ’80s crime wave. To channel her character as Isaac’s stylish but detached wife, Chastain dove into the Armani archives with esteemed costume designer Kasia Walicka-Maimone. Together they pulled an assortment of key pieces (such as a long white coat with matching wide belt worn by Chastain in a pivotal scene) and also created new custom Armani looks that were essential to tell her character’s story.

Mobsters, intrigue, and high fashion. What else could you want on New Year’s Eve? But don’t take our word for it. Chastain, Chandor, and Walicka-Maimone explain the ethos behind the film in this exclusive BTS look.
