*This* Was the Most Talked About Royal Event of 2020

This year didn’t quite live up to expectations, but that didn’t stop Princess Beatrice from throwing a secret wedding that will go down as one of the most talked about events of 2020.

No, really. Elizabeth Holmes (author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style) appeared on a recent episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast, where she chatted with hosts Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito about the popularity of Princess Beatrice’s nuptials.

After calling it the most memorable event of 2020, Holmes revealed that it had everything to do with the royal’s hidden details, which were gifts from her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

“She wore the queen’s wedding tiara, and then she wore that Norman Hartnell dress,” she said. “That symbolism there—the queen’s eldest granddaughter wearing these historic pieces. Everybody just went nuts, so that was a wonderful moment.”

While it may seem minor, Holmes admitted that these tributes are a major deal to the royal family. “Those things don’t happen on accident, the queen doesn’t just feel like, ‘Yeah. You can have a tiara,’” she explained. “That tiara holds so much meaning, and it will forever be Princess Elizabeth’s wedding tiara. So, to see it on the next generation of princesses was incredible.”

Holmes added, “If you have to get married during COVID, that’s a fun touch to have.”

Labeling Princess Beatrice’s wedding as the most popular royal event of 2020 might shock some people. There were a number of large royal fam stories, but perhaps a surprise wedding trumps all else.

Oh, to be royal.
