This Is the Most Popular Yoga Practice on YouTube

Finding a quick yoga practice actually isn’t that difficult. You simply need to head to YouTube. However, finding a high-quality flow is another matter. Given the range of well-known and expert teachers--including Kassandra Reinhardt of Yoga with Kassandra, Travis Eliot, and, of course, Adriene Mishler (Yoga with Adriene)--you likely already have some favorites on the platform. (We also have our favorite YouTube yoga practices.)

But which holds the spot of the most viewed yoga practice on the platform? This title is actually held by German yoga teacher Mady Morrison. Her video, titled “15 Min. Full Body Stretch | Daily Routine for Flexibility, Mobility & Relaxation | DAY 7,” is an accessible flow combining basic poses with simple stretches. It’s easy to understand why this particular class is so popular. The soothing music in the background, accompanied by a non-aggressive countdown timer (yes, such a thing exists), brings a calming vibe to the gentle practice.

Morrison doesn’t speak throughout the video, instead guiding you through pose previews and demonstrations. After watching the class for just few minutes (without even completing any of the movements), I felt my entire body relax.

Throughout the video, Morrison moves through a series of slow postures, including Marjaryasana (Cat Pose), Bitilasana (Cow Pose), Thread the Needle, Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog), Utthan Pristhasana (Lizard Pose), and Sphinx Pose. She lingers in each pose for about 30 seconds, then offers 10 seconds of rest before moving onto to the next posture. She concludes the practice with a series of gentle twists, helping your body feel soothed and stretched before you leave your mat. Due to the lack of verbal cues, this flow isn’t ideal for true beginners, but if you have a bit of yoga knowledge, you’ll be able to navigate this simple practice.

Released in 2020 as part of her “Stretching Sessions,” as well as her “7 Days, 7 Workouts” series, the video has just under 58 million views, 11 million more than the second-most viewed yoga practice. More than 11,000 people have left comments on this particular flow.

“[My] first time doing this stretch, I didn't realize how stiff and tense I was until doing these,” one person writes. “Definitely going to do this more and hopefully become more limber have a great day!”

“I do this stretch as part of my morning routine since last December, and ever since I [have become] so much more flexible,” says another. “Thank you for this gem!”

For some, the routine improved their flexibility, allowed them to be more mobile or helped them keep a healthy habit. “It has been 21 days since I started doing this everyday,” commenter Junie Nguyen writes. “My backache is reduced a lot, I can sleep better. Thank you so much.”

Morrison herself also commented on the sensation the practice is in the video’s comment section. “Thank you so much for your positive feedback, she wrote. “I really appreciate your lovely comments and I am more than happy that you enjoy this kind of stretching video so much (no talking, only music)!”
