These Are the Most Popular Thanksgiving Pies in Each State, According to Google Trends

Thanksgiving is traditionally a cornucopia of savory foods—mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, roasted turkey, and sausage stuffing. But there’s always room for dessert, especially pie. Google Trends data shows the most searched Thanksgiving pies in each state, and the results might surprise you.

To figure the most searched pies, Google Trends shows the top searched results in conjunction with a "pie" Google search by state, according to Google Trends curator Sabrina Elfarra. Looking at Google's data, the five top searched pies throughout the country as of publish are:

1. Pumpkin pie

2. Apple pie

3. Pecan pie

4. Cherry pie

5. Lemon meringue pie

It's no surprise that the vast majority of the country favors pumpkin and apple pie on Thanksgiving. However, when you look at the most unique searches by state, there were some interesting regional favorites that ranked high in certain locations. For example, key lime pie is beloved in the Mountain states, fruit and custard pies are popular in the Midwest, and Mississippi mud pie is the most unique searched pie, not in Mississippi (they prefer chocolate), but in Louisiana. Some lesser-known pies like grape pie and shoofly pie topped the charts in Arizona and Pennsylvania, respectively.

No matter which way you slice it, you really can't lose if you offer any of these pies on your Thanksgiving table this year.
