From Cosmopolitan

I’m just gonna come right out and say what we’re all thinking: The costumes on The Masked Singer season 3 are actually terrifying. I mean, have you seen the Night Angel? Why must they assault our eyeballs with all that purple and pink? And don’t even get me started on the Frog—straight out of my darkest dreams! When the Astronaut walked onstage in, ya know, classic astronaut attire, I was more than a little relieved to have an eyeball break.

Without a scary getup to distract me, I figured I’d be able to guess which celeb is lurking inside the space suit right away. But as it turns out, I’m just really, really bad at recognizing voices. Thankfully, the judges and fans came through with some theories. Let’s dive in.

The Clues

The Astronaut gave us a lot to work with in their clue package. They mention being far from home and not having a “pitch-perfect” landing. When Nick Cannon asked about the astronaut mask, they said something about how the sky is *usually* the limit, but as an astronaut, it’s only the beginning and they’re “just getting started.” Other clues include a lei, a broom (possibly a Harry Potter reference?), and a toolbox. Check it out, ’cause I’m fully spacing out (sorry, had to).

The Performance

In perhaps the most emotional performance of the entire series, the Astronaut’s heartfelt rendition of “You Say” by Christian music artist Lauren Daigle had judge Nicole Scherzinger wiping away tears. With such a moving performance, it’s clear the Astronaut felt a deep connection to the song. Grab some tissues before you watch.

The Theories

Country music star Hunter Hayes is currently the top theory buzzing around The Masked Singer prediction-verse and it’s easy to see why. For starters, fans immediately recognized the Astronaut’s distinct voice as Hunter’s, and after listening to some of his songs, I have to agree. Hunter released an album called Wild Blue and the Astronaut yells “Code blue!” in the clue package. The lyrics in his album are full of the same space references in the Astronaut’s clues (gravity, space, falling, etc.). He’s also very open about his Christian faith, so the song choice is def on brand.

The Astronaut’s clue package mentioned a “pitch-perfect landing,” which made judge Ken Jeong (and a lotta fans) think the celeb behind the mask is part of the Pitch Perfect film franchise. Twitter seems pretty confident that it’s actor Ben Platt, given that he also started out young, much like the Astronaut.

We have Jenny McCarthy to thank for this theory: She immediately thought of this Harry Potter star when she saw the broomstick clue. Commonly known as your favorite villain Draco Malfoy, Tom Felton started his career young like the Astronaut. If you’re like, “Yeah, well, what about that Hawaiian lei clue?” Tom has a song called “Hawaii.” People even think their voices are the same.

Freddie Stroma

Freddie Stroma was in both Harry Potter and Pitch Perfect, so he clearly fits the broom and “pitch perfect” clues. He’s from the UK, which means he’s also far from home, like the Astronaut. Freddie is certainly heartthrob material (I mean, just look at him 😍) and the Astronaut does mention heart throbbing....

TBH, I need some more info before I place any bets, but I’m super impressed with these theories so far.
