Spending more time at home this past year has undoubtedly changed our relationship to our living spaces. For many, that meant refreshing their homes—whether by upgrading a makeshift WFH space to include an actual desk and office chair or transforming a backyard into an outdoor oasis. If you didn’t get to all the home improvement projects you had mapped out for 2020, this year is a great time to get started. In fact, people have even more home projects planned for 2021 than they did last year, according to a new study commissioned by Lowe’s.

The study reveals that nearly two-thirds of homeowner respondents said that their home means more to them than it did a year ago. And it looks like they’re not done looking for ways to improve their living spaces. From working on green thumbs to organizing cluttered areas, the most popular home improvement plans focus small-scale changes. The top five home projects that people have planned for 2021 are as follows:

  • Plant something

  • Reorganize their closet

  • Update decor

  • Paint a room

  • Organize garage or storage areas

Many of the surveyed participants also plan to take on larger projects this year. The most popular ones include repairing plumbing or electrical, remodeling their kitchen, and finishing their basement.
