Here’s the Most Popular Classic Disney Movie in Every State, According to a New Report
Disney has a huge library of beloved animated classics. It’s so big and beloved, in fact, that many of the titles have been or are currently being adapted into live-action reboots, such as Beauty and the Beast, Christopher Robin, Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, and more. We don’t know if we could pick a favorite, but a recent report by CableTV.com used Google Trends data to determine what the most popular animated Disney classic is in each state across the US.
Perhaps most surprising is the fact that, despite the massive success of the 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, the 1991 movie was only favored in the state of Utah — and even then it was part of a 14-way tie (!). Less surprising: The Lion King is the hands-down favorite across the country, with 17 states showing the 1994 classic lots of love.
CableTV.com looked at factors such as title familiarity, popularity, and cultural relevance to come up with a list of the 25 most popular Disney classic films. The selection of films started with the earliest Disney animated feature film, 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and continued through the end of what’s known as the Disney Renaissance, the time period between approximately 1989 and 1999, when Disney’s renewed push into more animated musical films likely ruled your childhood.
