These Are the Most Popular Budget Destinations in the U.S. for the 2023 Holiday Season, According to Priceline

Get away for less.

Winter is coming. And Priceline knows precisely where you should go for a seasonal escape.

To help travelers make the most of their winter breaks, Priceline dug into its proprietary data to determine which destinations will see a pop in popularity this season and which will be most affordable to visit in the months ahead.

According to the data, shared with Travel + Leisure, the most affordable and popular destinations for December getaways in the U.S. include a true mixed bag of cold weather spots for snow-filled vacations and warm-weather getaways to escape the chill.

Coming in at No. 1 is Branson, Missouri, which has an average hotel price per night of just $107 in December. Here, guests can enjoy places like Dolly Parton's Stampede and the Silver Dollar City amusement park.

Rounding out the top 5 most popular domestic destinations with ultra-affordable hotel prices are Jacksonville, Florida, in second, followed by Kissimmee, Florida; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Houston, which all have hotels priced at under $128 per night. These spots are followed up by Austin; Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Las Vegas; Portland, Oregon; and Seattle — all with hotels under $145 per night.

As for where travelers can fly on the cheap Priceline named Orlando, Florida, your best bet in December, with your average cost for round trip tickets at just $213. This just so happens to be the perfect time to go celebrate Disney World's latest festive event, Jollywood Nights. Orlando is followed by two other Florida destinations rounding out the top 3: Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, with hotels under $221 per night.

Surprisingly, the list includes several major cities, including Las Vegas in the fourth spot, with roundtrip tickets at $245. Sin City is followed by Chicago; Philadelphia; Miami; Atlanta; Fort Myers, Florida; and Denver — all with roundtrip tickets under $262.

And, for anyone looking to save for holiday travel, Priceline noted that for Christmas, the cheapest day to fly (like in years past) is Christmas Eve. However, it added that "if you don't want to fly on Christmas Eve, traveling between Dec. 18 and Dec. 20 may help you save up to 15 percent." That said, it also noted that you're probably too late to snag any good deals.

"While it's too late to get some of the best pricing for holiday travel this year, plan to book earlier next year for significant savings," Priceline shared in its findings. "Based on historic pricing, the best deals were probably in September and October." Still, you never know. You could, in theory, still score a deal on sites like Priceline for the holidays. Let's hope for your sake you're on somebody's "nice" list.
