The Met Gala is certainly the biggest night in fashion, but another major event for the industry is the CFDA Fashion Awards honoring top American talents both emerging and established for their work across womenswear, menswear and accessory categories—this year’s nominees include buzzy designers Virgil Abloh for Off-White, Raf Simons for Calvin Klein, Mary-Kate And Ashley for The Row, Gabriela Hearst and Marc Jacobs for Womenswear Designer of the Year; Paul Andrew, Stuart Vevers for Coach, Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel for Mansur Gavriel , Mary-Kate And Ashley for The Row and Irene Neuwirth for Accessory Designer of the Year; and husband-and-wife duo Laura Vassar Brock and Kristopher Brock for Brock Collection, Aurora James for Brother Vellies, Sander Lak for Sies Marjan, Kerby Jean-Raymond for Pyer Moss and Mike Amiri for Amiri for the Swarovski Award For Emerging Talent. For the 17th year, the CFDA Awards has partnered with Swarovski and plucked Issa Rae as the evening’s host at the Brooklyn Museum in New York—this marks the first time the CFDA has selected an African-American for the job.
