Prince

It's been almost 40 years since Prince released his iconic Purple Rain album, and one auction house is celebrating his lasting influence in a big way.

RR Auction of Boston is now overseeing a sale of over 200 items that once belonged to the late music legend in the hopes of keeping his legacy—and his brilliant wardrobe pieces—alive for years to come.

As seen on the auction's website, some of the highly valuable items include the white ruffled shirt Prince famously wore during his performance of "Purple Rain" during the 1985 American Music Awards, which has been estimated by the auction house at a $15,000 value.

Other highlights from the collection include the screen-worn outfit from the 1986 film and Prince's directorial debut, Under the Cherry Moon, estimated at a value of $45,000, while the white cashmere coat from the film is believed to be worth $25,000.

The collection also includes several accessories, gloves, masks and jewelry worn by Prince both on stage and on screen, plus fabric swatches, concept sketches and clothing patterns from tours and various other projects. Additionally, the auction also includes several non wardrobe-related items, such as photographs and master tapes of his hit albums, all worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

According to the auction's website, the "massive archive" of Prince's items was "acquired by the consignor directly from those who worked closely with Prince and prestigious auction houses."

“What this auction really does is it shows the influence and legacy of Prince with his fashion choices and how it relates today, when you see all these artists on tour, you know, different costumes, different outfits, reinventing themselves for each tour," said Bobby Livingston of RR Auction, per the Associated Press

Bidding on the site is open now through Nov. 16 at 7:00pm EST.
