The Most Expensive 1-Bedroom Hotel Suite on Earth
New York City’s Four Seasons Hotel, located in midtown Manhattan, is one of the city’s most luxurious hotels. Designed by legendary architect I.M. Pei, the 52-story hotel has a soaring lobby that’s home to the posh Ty Bar, and each spacious room was renovated in 2016 and boasts huge windows, curved 65-inch TVs, high-end fixtures and furnishings, and a deep soaking tub (In short, it’s totally worth the splurge).
But these luxurious guest rooms pale in comparison to the Ty Warner Penthouse, which takes up the entire top floor of the hotel, took seven years to construct and clocks in at 4,300 square feet. At $50,000 per night, the penthouse, which opened in 2007, is the most expensive single-bedroom hotel suite in the world, according to the hotel.

An express elevator opens right into the suite, which itself flows into a massive living room with hand-lacquered walls with mother-of-pearl inlay, a glass chandelier by artist Deborah Thomas and a Bösendorfer baby grand piano.

There’s a private spa with bamboo trees, a Peloton bike and massage tables. A floor-to-ceiling waterfall flows over semi-precious green bowenite from South Africa. Huge corner windows let in natural light and offer incredible views. And a private library has floor-to-ceiling bookcases framed with a bronze trellis motif.

The master bathroom has a sink entirely made from quartz and a Chinese onyx-clad infinity tub overlooking Central Park.

And as for the bedroom, it has a 25-foot-high cathedral ceiling, a canopy bed made with Thai silk and threads of pure gold, bronze-clad bay windows, a diamond-shaped skylight (with shades that are drawn with the push of a button), and a handmade Hastens mattress from Sweden.

Many of the books, furnishings and art were selected by the hotel’s owner, Ty Warner, the founder of plush toymaker Ty Inc. who built his fortune selling Beanie Babies. The suite was constructed from scratch on top of the existing hotel at his request.
One other element of the suite that needs to be mentioned is the balconies. There are four of them, and they’re cantilevered out over the building (one is visible in the bathroom photo above). They also happen to be the highest cantilevered glass balconies in the world and are visible from street level if you look carefully. Upon request, a multi-course meal can be sent up and served on the terrace as well.
Most guests only spend one night in the penthouse as a special treat, according to a hotel representative, but a very well-heeled guest recently spent an entire month there. (In case you were wondering, the room charge was $1.5 million). While an evening at the Ty Warner Penthouse sadly isn’t in the cards for the vast majority, you can still spend a lovely vacation at one of the 76 most charming hotels in America.
