The Most Exciting New Flights This Fall, to the Caribbean, Europe, Australia, Japan and More
The end of summer is just around the corner, and that means it will soon be time to come in from the beach and start planning new adventures out of town. Here is a fresh batch of soon-to-launch flights that will help you add some exciting destinations to your calendar.
While the most attention-grabbing new flight is likely to be Singapore Airlines' new world's longest flight, launching October 12, you don't have to ride on a plane for 19 hours to take a fall break.
More Flights to the Caribbean
On October 1, Delta Air Lines will add a second daily flight to Nassau, the Bahamas (NAS) from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Closer to the holidays, Delta will start daily flights between JFK and Kingston, Jamaica (KIN) on December 20. Weekly (Saturday) flights between JFK and both Antigua/Barbuda (ANU) and Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP) kick off on December 22.
Don’t let worries about last year’s hurricane damage keep you from visiting the Caribbean. Many islands escaped serious harm and recovery and reconstruction for areas hard hit is well underway.
Nonstop Flights to Melbourne
Qantas Airways kicks off the fall season on September 1 with the inaugural flight between San Francisco and Melbourne, Australia. The flight, on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, will be the only direct service between the two cities (for now) and will operate four times a week (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays).
When this new route begins, Qantas will continue its daily Airbus A380 flights between Los Angeles and Melbourne, but as of September 1 the airline will offer Dreamliner service between those two cities just two times a week, down from six.
American Airlines's Special Flights for CES
Between January 4 and 14, American Airlines and its joint business partner Japan Airlines (JAL) will operate a nonstop flight between Narita International Airport and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The limited-edition flights will be on American’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft and are designed to serve the many Japanese travelers heading to and from Las Vegas for CES 2019, the giant consumer electronics show that draws more than 184,000 tech-minded attendees from around the world.
Boston to Amsterdam
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will launch new flights between Boston Logan International Airport and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on March 31, 2019.
A KLM Airbus A330-300 will begin flying three times a week (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) between the two cities. A fourth flight (on Mondays) will be added to the schedule beginning on July 1. KLM’s joint-venture partner, Delta, offers twice-daily flights between Boston and Amsterdam as well.
Two weeks later, Boston Logan Airport is also set to get new service to Seoul, South Korea.
On April 12, 2019, Korean Air will being nonstop flights between Boston and Seoul’s Incheon Airport five days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). The flights will be on Korean Air’s 787-9 Dreamliner, which has six first class sleeper suites, 18 business class sleeper suites and 245 seats in the economy cabin.
Cheap Flights to Canada
Swoop, a new “ultra-low-cost” subsidiary of Canada’s WestJet, begins service on seven routes between Canada and U.S. in October.
The airline will fly between Mesa (Phoenix) and Edmonton; between Las Vegas and Hamilton (near Toronto), Edmonton and Abbotsford (near Vancouver); and from Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, Florida to Hamilton.
The carrier’s first international routes kick off on October 11 with daily flights (11 times a week) between Las Vegas and Edmonton and three-times-a-week service between Las Vegas and Abbotsford.
Swoop’s Orlando-Hamilton route begins October 17 (3 times a week) and the Tampa Bay to Hamilton flights begin October 20 (3 times a week as well). Flights from both Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale to Hamilton start October 26 (4 times a week and twice a week, respectively). And, on October 27, twice weekly flights begin between Mesa and Edmonton.
United Already Offering Winter Getaways
The beaches will beckon — again — in December and it’s not too early to start planning that winter getaway.
United Airlines is thinking ahead and has announced the addition of seasonal daily flights between Washington Dulles International Airport and Miami International Airport from December 19, 2018 to March 30, 2019. During the mad-rush of the peak holiday travel period between December 24 and January 6, 2019, the carrier will offer twice daily service between these two cities.
United also announced that it will begin flying between Washington Dulles and Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv on May 22, 2019. The new flight will the first operated by a U.S. carrier between these two cities and will operate three days a week on a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
United currently flies twice-daily between Newark Liberty International Airport and Tel Aviv and offers daily service between San Francisco and Tel Aviv.
