Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Billy Crudup, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carrell, continues to receive critical acclaim. The good news for fans? Season three is right around the corner, and is set to premiere this September.
According to the streamer, "In season three, the future of the network is thrown into question and loyalties are pushed to the brink when a tech titan takes an interest in UBA. Unexpected alliances form, private truths are weaponized and everyone is forced to confront their core values both in and out of the newsroom." The first trailer for the season (watch above) dropped in August.
Here's what we know so far about The Morning Show season three:
Season three premieres on September 13, 2023.
Initially, The Morning Show was only picked up for two seasons, and a third season wasn't a sure thing given that there are so many famous faces in the show, and that navigating schedules could prove difficult.
But in January 2022, the series' new showrunner Charlotte Stoudt confirmed that The Morning Show will be returning. “I’m excited to be joining forces with Apple TV Plus and ‘The Morning Show,’” Stoudt said, per Variety. “The cast, led by the phenomenal Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, are truly to die for. Kerry, Mimi and Michael, and the teams at Media Res, Hello Sunshine and Echo Films, have created an irresistible world that is equally delicious and provocative.”
“It has been thrilling to watch ‘The Morning Show’ go from strength to strength over the past two seasons, exploring topical storylines that have resonated with audiences around the world while also being incredibly addictive and entertaining,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, again per Variety. “We’re excited to see where Charlotte takes these extraordinary characters in season three and to watch the magic that Jennifer, Reese and our awe-inspiring cast continue to bring to the captivating world of morning television.”
Season three will be ten episodes.
There will be some new faces this season.
In August 2022, Deadline reported that Jon Hamm would be joining the cast, and that the show would be heading to production later that month. Hamm will play Paul Marks, a corporate titan who "sets his sights on UBA." Tig Notaro will join the cast as Amanda Robinson, Marks's chief of staff.
Nicole Beharie will also be featured in season three, as a new anchor on The Morning Show who is “a grounded, competitive, and charismatic millennial,” per a press release.
In October 2022, Variety reported that Natalie Morales will join season three in a recurring role as Kate Danton, Stella's (Greta Lee) best friend from Stanford. In addition, Julianna Margulies will also return to the series as Laura Peterson.
Season three won't be about COVID.
While the show centers around current events—The Morning Show (the show within the show) is a news program, after all—it won't continue to focus on the pandemic. Executive producer Mimi Leder says, "If there is [a third season], it will not be about COVID. I promise you that."
"It's a good, juicy one," Aniston told People about season three. "Everybody's getting in trouble. Everybody has a secret. And everyone's just walking the line. It's a lot more sensual this year."
