More 'NCIS: Sydney' to Come as Aussie Spinoff Gets Season 2 Pickup

Thanks to the shortage of programming due to the two strikes last year, NCIS: Sydney was introduced to American audiences on CBS last fall in addition to airing on Paramount+ in Australia, as was the original plan -- and it found an audience.

So much so, that NCIS: Sydney was the No. 1 new series of the fall and currently ranks as the No. 3 new series of the 2023-2024 season, and as such, CBS announced today it was picked up for a second season, which coincides with the cross-continent season two order today by Paramount+ Australia.

NCIS: Sydney stars Olivia Swann as NCIS Special Agent Captain Michelle Mackey and Todd Lasance as Australian Federal Police (AFP) Liaison Officer Sergeant Jim 'JD' Dempsey, who, as part of a multinational taskforce, oversea the newly formed NCIS office in Sydney, to help curb rising international tensions in the Indo-Pacific, the most contested patch of ocean on the planet.

“The global power of the NCIS franchise became even stronger on broadcast and streaming with the addition of NCIS: Sydney,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “Our American viewers have fully embraced these engaging characters, unique stories and the fabulous Australian scenery. We are thrilled to bring this show back to CBS next season and spend even more time down under.”

NCIS: Sydney debuted on Paramount+ Australia on Nov. 10, 2023, and on CBS in the U.S. and on Global in Canada on Nov. 14, 2023. The series premiere reached over 10.2 million viewers on linear in the U.S., including an encore episode.

In addition to Swann and Lasance, the series stars Sean Sagar, Tuuli Narkle, Mavournee Hazel and William McInnes.

NCIS’s 1,000th episode will air as the seventh episode of Season 21 of NCIS on Monday, April 15 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
