Montgomery County celebrates ‘Older American Month’

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – May is Older American Month and on Friday, Montgomery County hosted an event celebrating older adults who live in the county.

Event organizers said this is their way of saying, “thank you” to seniors for all they have contributed to the county through the years.

The event took place at the Long Branch Community Recreation Center and featured food, dancing, fitness and music demos and a resource fair.

“I really believe older adults are the brain trust in our community,” Montgomery County’s Aging and Disability Services chief, Patrice McGhee, said. “We can learn so much from them and I just love having an opportunity to get away from the desk and sit with older adults and just learn from them.”

“I’ve danced,” Montgomery County neighbor Judy Williams said. “I’ve danced. I’ve danced. I went to every table and got free samples of everything.”
