Beloved TV personality Montel Williams was hospitalized on Wednesday, according to his spokesman, Jonathan Franks.

Franks posted on Twitter that the 61-year-old, who is apparently a workout enthusiast, "overdid it" at the gym, and was taken to a hospital in New York City "out of an abundance of caution."

Franks then went on to say in the statement that Williams is doing well, and will tell his story in the upcoming days:

"As he always has, Montel will tell his story himself. Until then, we respectfully ask that his family’s privacy be respected. The Williams family will be forever grateful for the quick response from FDNY and the excellent care he has received.”

According to TMZ, Williams was doing dumbbell squats when "something went wrong." His rep went on to say that, "we don't take any chances when it comes to somebody with multiple sclerosis."

In 1999, Williams revealed he had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. Since then he has been an advocate for MS, and has been vocal about how it impacts his life.

According to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, exercise can be extremely beneficial in managing symptoms of MS. However, overdoing it or pushing too far, as it seems Williams did, can potentially be dangerous.

After news broke about Williams' condition, fans across America were sending their well-wishes to the talk show host.
