Mont Tremblant Confirms One Dead, One Injured In Gondola Incident

Mont Tremblant, located in Quebec, Canada, has confirmed that one person has died, and another has been seriously injured in an incident on one of the resort's gondolas.

Police say that a piece of construction equipment fell yesterday and struck the moving gondola around noon. Two passengers were thrown from their gondola car as a result.

Today, Sunday, July 16, an accident occurred at Tremblant involving the panoramic gondola and construction machinery operated by a third party. It is with deep regret that we confirm, following the announcement by the Sûreté du Québec, that one of the two victims was pronounced deceased, while the other has been transferred to the hospital.

We are saddened by this situation and Station Mont Tremblant offers its most sincere condolences to all those involved.

The gondola remains closed until further notice.

Thank you for your understanding."

The incident happened on Tremblant's Panoramic Gondola, one of two gondolas at Tremblant.

According to data on LiftBlog's extensive database, the gondola was built in 1998 by Doppelmayr. It has a 2,026-foot vertical rise, and is 8,429 feet long. The ride time is about 7 minutes.

The Panoramic Gondola will remain closed for the foreseeable future as the incident is investigated by Canadian police for foul play and negligence.
