Monica Aldama spoke out this week to address her temporary suspension from USA Cheer in the midst of a new lawsuit that accuses her of covering up an alleged sexual assault.

The Navarro College head cheer coach, 51, was recently named in a federal suit filed by a student who claims she was sexually assaulted by a teammate in the fall of 2021, and that Aldama, among other Navarro College staff, allegedly tried to conceal the incident.

In a lengthy new post shared to Instagram on Thursday, May 4, the star of Netflix's Cheer revealed that she has been "temporarily suspended" by USA Cheer, a decision she believes was made in a "knee-jerk reaction" over the civil suit.

"The allegations that have been made against me are demonstrably false, and I vehemently deny the implications made publicly that I somehow participated in the direct or indirect harm of one of my athletes," she wrote in Thursday's post, noting that the alleged sexual assault was already investigated by local law enforcement in 2021, as well as "properly addressed by Navarro College under Title IX regulations."

While addressing her temporary suspension, Aldama called out USA Cheer's decision, stating, "I think the organization did so out of an abundance of caution when it had very little of the underlying facts and circumstances to review."

Nonetheless, Aldama said she is also "hopeful" about the situation "because we need systems in place that protect our athletes and the community at large from abuses that do happen within the framework of sports."

"While my situation is unfortunate, I will gladly participate in USA Cheer's investigation and whatever process is available to me," she continued. "I have also retained private legal counsel to address the USA Cheer temporary suspension and the defamatory statements that have been publicly made and disseminated about me professionally."

She went on to say that her attorney, Russel Prince, is "addressing the issues now and we fully expect the suspension to be lifted shortly."

"I have given my blood, sweat, and tears to the sport of cheer for the last thirty-five years. It's not hyperbole for me to say that cheer, and the cheer community, are a part of the fabric of my very being," she added.

While wrapping up her message, Aldama explained that it would be unfair to distract the athletes with her current legal affairs, and has consequently decided to "step aside from the House of Cheer Tour until this matter is resolved."

She then gave a special thanks to those who have been supporting her, "specifically Navarro College. That Bulldog support has not gone unnoticed, and the support has sincerely been appreciated."

"I will update as more information comes available," she concluded, while signing off, "All my best, Monica."
