The long-awaited second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally been released. This trailer unloaded a lot of exciting new details regarding Spidey's next adventure. From the onscreen appearance of past villains throughout the multiverse to a climactic battle that illuminates the sky, there's a lot that this trailer foreshadows. For this reason, we're going to take a look at the 14 predictions I have after watching the latest Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Sony / Via youtube.com 14. The Villains Get Upgrades Judging from the trailer, Spidey's villains seem to have gotten some upgrades since their last onscreen appearances. Doc Ock now has red plating on one of his tentacles, which he might have applied since his arrival in the MCU. The most noticeable upgrade comes with Electro, who sports some sort of armor that possibly controls his powers, hence the lack of his blue form and his lightning now being yellow. Hopefully, this might even lead to Green Goblin getting a more comics-accurate suit.
Sony / Via youtube.com 13. There's a Time Jump Based on a line from Doctor Strange, it seems like quite an amount of time passed between him botching his magic amnesia spell and Spidey meeting the film's villains. This would explain how the movie seems to go from the summer in Far From Home to a much colder, winter setting. Perhaps we'll get to see how months of living with a murder charge and his secret identity out in the open take a toll on Peter's life. Just in time for Christmas!
Sony / Via youtube.com 12. J. Jonah Jameson Joins the Hunt The trailer gave us a quick glimpse of J. Jonah Jameson and his news crew at the center of some chaos caused by Sandman and Electro. This implies that they're following the carnage left behind by the film's villains, or he's searching for Spider-Man. The mustachioed newsman has always had a deep hatred for the webhead, and with him being framed for murder, Jameson could try to hunt him down, thinking he's responsible for the destruction caused by the villains.
Sony / Via youtube.com 11. Spider-Man Helps the Villains Escape The trailer showed Peter unwilling to return the villains to their own universes, learning that doing so will leave them to die as they originally did. As a result, Peter steals an unknown artifact from Doctor Strange that possibly has the ability to send them back home. Peter's good intentions could lead to him helping the villains escape captivity from Strange, which could ultimately backfire later in the film. A note here as well, not all the villains that appear in this trailer from other universes died. So this could possibly happen while only Doc Ock and Green Goblin are discovered. More on that later.
Sony / Via youtube.com 10. Spidey vs. Strange With Peter unwilling to let the displaced villains die, it looks like the film is setting up a battle between him and Doctor Strange. There are multiple shots that seemingly present this battle, such as the Sorcerer Supreme pushing Spidey's soul out of his body, him chasing the web-slinger down a dimensional rift, and them standing on a moving train. Both of the film's trailers have already set up a clash of ideals between the both heroes, and it could very well lead to a Civil War –esque battle in the middle of it.
Sony / Via youtube.com 9. An Endgame- Style Invasion The trailer ended with magical rifts forming in the sky around the Statue of Liberty, with Doctor Strange saying, "They're starting to come through, and I can't stop 'em." The only question is: What's on the other side? Could it be an army of monsters from the Dark Dimension? More variants of Spider-Man's enemies? Is Kang involved somehow? This could very well set up a massive invasion in the third act in the vein of Avengers: Endgame . After all, the film's director, Jon Watts, has said that this story is basically Spider-Man: Endgame .
Sony / Via youtube.com 8. A Manhunt Is On If this film will really be Spider-Man: Endgame , we should see our hero Spidey going on a sprawling adventure through NYC and beyond, hunting for the villains from past films. This already seems to be the case, as we see our hero facing Electro at a power grid outside the city. This is nothing new, since we've seen Peter travel to Washington, DC and Europe for his past two MCU films. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see him once again step out of familiar territory in this epic journey.
Sony / Via youtube.com 7. Some of the Villains Secretly Met Their End In the trailer, Doctor Strange claims that all the villains who appear in the film died fighting Spider-Man. However, that is only true for three of them. The Lizard survived his battle with the wall-crawler in The Amazing Spider-Man , and Sandman fled him and the authorities at the end of Spider-Man 3 . While Strange just may be wrong about a couple of villains, there is a chance that they died battling their respective Spider-Men offscreen. Who knows what happened to them after all these years?
Sony / Via youtube.com 6. The Shield on the Statue of Liberty One person actually got this one right. We saw Spider-Man battling his enemies on the Statue of Liberty, now outfitted with a giant replica of Captain America's shield (most likely to memorialize his "death"). This detail was actually rumored by a user on Reddit way back in April. If the rest of this rumor is true, we should see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield joining in the battle against the villains — but I'm sure you've seen that rumor online for over a year now.
Sony / Via youtube.com 5. Doc Ock Joins Peter Though Doc Ock is set up to be one of the villains in No Way Home , that doesn't mean it will be that way throughout the whole film. There is a shot of him being blasted by one of Electro's lightning bolts during the Statue of Liberty battle, so he could end up teaming up with Peter in the third act. Remember, the doctor did reform at the end of Spider-Man 2 , so he could do it again.
Sony / Via youtube.com 4. Another Goblin Though Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin is already confirmed, there is still the possibility of another character taking the mantle. At one point, we see a person in goggles riding a Goblin glider and launching weapons. This could just be Norman wearing a different outfit, but it could be someone else. It might be his son, Harry, or it could more likely be Peter's friend, Ned, becoming the Hobgoblin just like in the comics. If this is indeed a second Goblin, then he would be the final member of the film's Sinister Six.
Sony / Via youtube.com 3. Peter Addresses Uncle Ben Facing the conflict of whether or not to send these villains to their doom, Peter ends up saying, "This is all my fault. I can't save everyone." The person he says this to looks like his Aunt May, which could mean he will also address the death of his Uncle Ben. Spider-Man is famous for inadvertently causing the death of his beloved uncle, so it's about time Tom Holland's Spider-Man acknowledges this tragedy and how his desire to save people links to the battle at hand.
Sony / Via youtube.com 2. MJ Dies One shot that stood out in the trailer was the one of MJ falling with Peter chasing after her (this was actually foreshadowed in Far From Home ). It looks like MJ could in fact face her demise, as Zendaya has gone on to voice her uncertainty about returning as the character in the future. While this looks like a rehash of Gwen Stacy's tragic death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , the greater focus and build-up in the duo's relationship could have a more heartfelt impact on audiences if she does perish. On the other hand, this would be a great moment for Andrew Garfield's Spidey to save the day in a redemption arc.
Sony / Via youtube.com 1. Secret Spider-Men While fans were eagerly hoping to see Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire appear in this trailer, unfortunately we did not get to see them. Or did we? Marvel Studios has had a history of hiding important characters and plot points in their trailers, so it wouldn't be surprising that these Spidey alumni were in it this whole time.
Maybe they were hidden behind one of Tom Holland's suits, making it seem like they were him. Some fans even theorize that Andrew Garfield's Spidey was the one reaching to save a falling MJ. No matter what, No Way Home is sure to go down as the biggest Spider-Man film in history.
