Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1 has been a hit for Apple TV, with the spin-off MonsterVerse show proving popular with critics and audiences alike.

Legacy of Monsters follows Cate and Kentaro Randa in 2015, as they unravel their father’s history with secret organisation Monarch and its dealings with Godzilla and other “titans”. It also features Lee Shaw’s adventures in 1959, investigating radiation across the globe and uncovering early interactions with the King of Monsters and the early days of Monarch.

When Is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 On Apple TV?

The Apple TV+ series hasn’t officially been renewed for Season 2, but there are plenty of comments from staff working on the show that give us hope that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will get a Season 2.

Speaking to The Direct, exec producer Matt Fraction said that he sees the show lasting beyond Season 1 as it was never created as a one-off.

“Well, it wasn't designed as a limited series,” he said. “We certainly love the characters and playing in the world. And if we are so lucky and so fortunate, I think we could keep going for as long as people want to keep watching, quite honestly.”

Showrunner Chris Black hopes the fans stick around for all episodes streaming on Apple TV+ and he’s hopeful of a Season 2.

“We had to sort of build this from the ground up as a TV series, as something that was going to go for 10 hours and hopefully, if we're lucky, two seasons, three seasons - whatever we're lucky enough to get.”

After the initial two episodes, Apple TV+ is releasing one episode a week of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The schedule looks like this.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a continuation of the MonsterVerse franchise which began in 2014 with Godzilla, followed by Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla Vs Kong in 2021. A fifth film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is due for release April 12, 2024.

As well as TV show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, an animated entry in the MonsterVerse was released in 2023 by Netflix, called Skull Island.
