If you're a fan of country music and modern pop, listen up! The new country music series Monarch is the best of worlds. 🙌

The show, starring Susan Sarandon, aired this past Sunday on Fox, and viewers were blessed with a wide array of original music (as well as an already drama-filled plot).

If you've watched the trailer, it was clear from day one that Monarch would focus specifically on country music. (The show is about two country icons who have created a dynasty in the industry, after all.) But fans were pleasantly surprised when Fox released a clip of Gigi Taylor-Roman (Beth Ditto) rocking out with a soulful and folky rendition of Lizzo's "Juice." The tune, originally full of pop melodies, was transformed into a modern, contemporary country song. And it's everything.

But if you're more of a traditional country fan, don't panic just yet. Country music star, Trace Adkins, takes a lead role in the show and can be seen covering Hank Williams Jr.'s "A Country Boy Can Survive." It's everything you'd expect his cover to be, but somehow, more.

Former Glee staffer, Alex Anders, takes on the role of Monarch's vocal producer/co-music production supervisor chair. And if you remember anything about Glee, you know that the show thrived on covering modern hits, as well as all-time classics.

Speaking to Wide Open Country (and others at a press event) about the vision of the new series, Anders talked about the similarities and differences between the two shows.

"I think it's going to introduce a younger generation to songs that they maybe haven't heard before and bring up some of the old songs that we know and love," Anders said. "But also just introduce new people to the country style and performers. Totally different style. We're not Glee, you know. Even though we did that, this ain't it. It's a totally different thing. But I hope it does [for country music] what Glee did [for pop] in that it introduces amazing songs to whole new audiences."

New episodes of Monarch will air on Fox every Tuesday starting September 20 at 9:00 p.m. ET. To watch the episodes at your own pace and availability, you can stream Monarch through Hulu and YouTube TV.
