From the smoke clouds of color in the background to the stunning gowns, everything about the above picture is worth way more than a thousand words. But that's not why this image is going viral.

Six women and four babies star in the image, but it's who you don't see that explains why the photo has gotten such a strong reaction. Not pictured are the babies that these mothers never had the chance to raise. Like millions of other women, they have experienced the tragedy of pregnancy loss.

Now, years after their painful losses, the women have found love in their beautiful "rainbow babies," also known as the children born after miscarriage or infant loss. This stunning photo by Alex Bolen, owner of Shutter Darling Photography, celebrates that beauty.

Alex, who recently had her first child, came up with the idea as a way to overcome her own fear of pregnancy loss. After finding the subjects in her expectant moms' Facebook group, she organized the bittersweet photo shoot with the hope that it would provide women everywhere with, well, hope. "[I wanted] to let women know not to give up. Even after years of trying [to conceive], there's still that ray of hope," she told Today.

After posting it on Facebook, Alex not only got her message across, but also started a global conversation. In less than week, the photo received 16,000 likes, 20,000 shares, and over 2,000 comments.

"That's exactly what I wanted it to do. It's been really amazing,"said Alex.
