Moment Golden Retriever Realizes It's 'Her Special Day' Is the Best Birthday Gift
There are very few times when you really get to surprise your pet — their birthday is one of them. Perhaps that's why a couple online went big for their Golden Retriever's birthday. And when the pup realized the commotion was all for her, her reaction was just so sweet.
Lady must've been curious when her dad brought in a birthday cake, but little did she know it was all for her.
The tone of her mama's voice probably tipped her off that something special was happening. The Golden mom was practically gushing when the dog's birthday cake arrived.

"Is that your cake?" she cooed from behind the camera. Then the pieces started coming together. There were giant bags of balloons in the house, pink decorations, and then slowly there were guests! All of the Golden Retriever's friends showed up to celebrate at her Barbie-themed b-day bash.
"So many tail wags," her owner joked in the onscreen caption.
People online were positively charmed by Lady's party. "Wow, such an amazing idea. Lady looks so adorable and sweet," wrote one commenter. "Love how she was waiting at the door/window for her guest," another person chimed in. "I want to come to the pretty princess doggy birthday party!" a third commenter added. "I think they do know [that it's their birthday]. We had Christmas presents for our dog. When it was her turn to open. It was like she knew," shared someone else.

If parties aren't really your thing, there are other ways to say happy birthday to your fur-child. Like buying your pet a new toy! Who wouldn't want a present on their big day? Word to the wise, dogs thrive on comfort and may really relish a new version of their favorite toy. So if they really favor a certain stuffy, you'll hit a home run by buying them a new one.
Another treat is to take your dog on an extra-long walk or hike. If your dog loves the great outdoors, this really can be exciting for them. Just make sure to let them sniff around and find a really good stick.
While going big certainly is nice, the truth is that your dog loves you above all else. The perfect birthday to your dog might just be some quality time with you. So don't worry about getting fancy, dogs are happy just getting more of what they love. And what they love most is time with their owners.
