Moment Abused Horse Finally Realizes He's Safe Will Make Anyone Emotional

That feeling when you finally come home after a long day is unmatched by anything else. Maybe it's that return to the familiar or the sense that you can truly be yourself in a space that's all your own, but there's no denying how nice it is to feel safe and relaxed finally.

The same can go for animals, too! Even if they haven't found somewhere to call home, many animals can sense when they're somewhere safe. That's precisely what happened with horse rescuer Bree's newest resident as he slowly realized where he was. He and his brother were saved from horrible neglect, but the beautiful horse finally started to relax and trust his owner on March 4. Check out the heartwarming video!

Aww--how sweet! It's clear to see just how gentle Bree is being with this rescued horse, and it's paying off so well. He's completely relaxing! It looks almost as if he was going to rest his head on her back, but it may take a few baby steps to get there.

When you think about it, the fact that he lets her brush his legs so soon after meeting her shows what a calming, trustworthy energy she has. This horse's body language is completely relaxed, but if you ask me, he looks exhausted, too. Poor guy!

This Appaloosa horse is one of two brothers, Tofu and Bonsai, who arrived at @healing_with_horseplay at the end of February. They were malnourished, dirty, and in major need of hair and hoof care, but Bree was there to help the horses get a whole new lease on life.

Horses Need Rescuing, Too

If you've scrolled through social media recently, you've likely seen plenty of dog rescue videos. There are tons of humane societies, animal rescues, and nonprofits dedicated to finding loving homes for dogs, cats, and small animals, but there aren't nearly as many organizations dedicated to horses. But that doesn't mean they aren't out there! Bree's Minnesota horse rescue is just one of dozens--if not hundreds--of programs meant for horses and farm animals.

Believe it or not, there are a few rural humane societies that help rescue and rehome horses, too! These facilities with barns or stables are few and far between in some areas, however, so you'll need to do your research if you're considering adopting a horse. These animals can be joyful additions to hobby farms and animal sanctuaries, so I hope to see more stories like Tofu and Bonsai's making the rounds on social media soon.
