From Good Housekeeping

Dearest Mama,

Thank you for the bows you used to put into my hair,

Thanks for sewing fluffies back into my teddy bear.

Thanks for teaching me to pray before I fell asleep,

Thanks for passing on your gift for buying great things cheap!

Thanks for always playing the piano when I sang,

Thanks for warding off the first few high school boys who rang!

Thank you for the belly laughs we'd share till we were blue,

Thanks for nursing me through every cold, sore throat, and flu.

Thanks for gluing sequins on my dance costumes for years,

Thanks for all the times you held me close and wiped my tears.

Thank you for the enchiladas, apple crisp, and roast,

Your homemade salsa recipe's the one I miss the most!

I miss the conversations we had driving in the car,

Blasting all the show tunes, belting like I was a star.

Off to the rehearsals, doing homework on the run,

But always finding time for Dairy Queen or Cinnabon.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to share another treat right now,

Or even just to dial up and FaceTime you some how.

If only I could look at those blue, sparkling eyes again,

Or hear that playful giggle or just chitchat now and then.

Especially on this day, the Mom-compartment of my heart

Aches for you, while wondering why Heaven's early start.

So often, I'm reminded of your everlasting love,

But sometimes it's just not enough to feel it from above.

So, I'm pretending one more time I'm wrapped in your embrace

To say these words of fierce appreciation face to face.

With strength and love, I strive to make you proud, I guarantee.

Thank you for the woman you inspire me to be.
