Mom Prom Keweenaw on May 10 to raise funds for adoptive families

HOUGHTON, Mich. (WJMN) – Mom Prom Keweenaw is gearing up for its event next month, where women can dance the night away while helping a local cause.

This annual fundraising event is an enchanting evening of charity and fun for women 21 years and over. Mom Prom Keweenaw raises funds to support adoptive families in the Copper Country to help alleviate the financial burdens associated with adoption. In collaboration with UP Kids, Mom Prom Keweenaw has disbursed approximately $25,000 to support six local adoptive families. A seventh family has recently been selected to receive $5,000 from the adoption fund, aiding them in covering essential expenses such as travel and other adoption-related expenditures.

This year’s theme for Mom Prom Keweenaw is “Puttin’ on the Ritz”. There will be 1920s-inspired glamour and festivities, including a cocktail hour, silent auction, live music, professional photo booth, and dancing.

“Women who attend the event typically look forward to it year after year because it is so much fun,” said Jennifer Wall, the marketing coordinator for Mom Prom Keweenaw. “There are no partners, children. There’s no it’s just a good time for women to get together. It’s like this, ladies’ night out. And I want to say it’s probably the largest ladies night out in the area and it’s a chance to dress up, get something really fancy, do your hair, do your makeup, and just have a lot of fun with friends. And so, it’s I don’t think there’s anything like it in our area. So, a lot of women look forward to it. our goal is to raise $10,000 for the event. Typically, we like to give families anywhere between $3,000 to $5,000 and we like the adoption fund to be available year-round for families that need financial assistance. So that money is there when families are in need.”

Mom Prom Keweenaw is Friday, May 10 at the Rozsa Center in Houghton from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Proceeds from ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations will replenish the MPK adoption fund, which aids residents in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw counties engaged in the adoption process. Tickets are available in person through the Rozsa Box Office or online at tickets.mtu.edu. A promotional discount code (MPK10) is available until May 9, offering a $10 discount on ticket purchases.
